Gerard Kennedy

Gerard Kennedy is currently the CEO of Alpha Healthcare, a unique private organization dedicated to improving Canadian public health care www.alphahealthcare.ca. Its growing innovative operations include medical laboratories, healthcare IT, and research and development.

Gerard was previously a federal MP, provincial cabinet minister, provincial MPP and front rank leadership contender for the Liberal Party. As the Ontario Minister of Education from 2003-2006 he is widely credited with a turnaround in student performance, teacher and education worker morale and public confidence in publicly funded schools. Gerard was also an effective ‘roll up the sleeves’ official opposition critic in diverse areas such as health and education provincially and industry, environment, and cities and infrastructure at the federal level.

Prior to Alpha, Gerard was President of his own company, Enterprising for the Public Good helping to solve problems for clients as diverse as the US Congress, businesses, unions and charitable organizations. Gerard was Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Business for 2007-08. In 1983 Gerard became the first executive director of Canada’s first food bank in Edmonton before moving to the same capacity with Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank in 1986 for ten years.

Gerard’s recognitions include honorable mention for CEO of the Year by the Financial Post Magazine, Newsmaker of the Year by The Toronto Star, 50 Most Influential by Toronto Life, national Public Education Advocate from the Canadian Teachers’ Federation and Education Leader from the University of Ottawa.
